FCW : March 30, 2013
March 30, 2013 FCW.COM 3 For almost a quarter-century, the Federal 100 awards have honored individuals who lean into the challenge and use ingenuity, leadership and old-fashioned hard work to overcome obstacles that would stymie lesser mortals. This year, though, is different. The winners are once again the can-do problem-solvers we have come to expect, but the problems they must solve seem larger and more numerous than ever. Cyber threats are multiplying. Technology itself is changing at an ever- increasing pace. And every accomplishment of 2012 was secured in the face of budget cuts, political paralysis, salary and hiring freezes, and the very real threat of full-blown government shutdowns. It's an impossible situation. And yet, the 100 women and men recognized here de ed the odds and got it done. They made government better and showed what truly talented leaders can accomplish --- with projects large and small, and despite hurdles of every possible variety. The power of the individual informs FCW's coverage each and every day, but with this issue, we take time to really spotlight and celebrate it. Federal IT would not function without people like this year's Federal 100. And at a time when optimism can be hard to muster in government, their stories are a refreshing reminder of what one person can make possible. ---THE EDITORS What great people make possible
